WEST PALM BEACH, Florida, January 14, 2003 -Good moods attract money. With the January extension of unemployment benefits, many jobless individuals will resume the agonizing process of looking for work -- a process which, most often, is more difficult than working. Yet, recent studies show that the most important qualification for re-employment may never show up on resumes. Indeed, if you want to see "greener" pastures (and pocket-books), look at your circumstances with 'BizNiche Vision'.
If this sounds like a "mood ring," it should. According to experts (like Josh Reynolds, "mood ring" inventor, who also pioneered studies in biofeedback, psycho-physiology, molecular electronics and air ionization) "visualization of success may help improve self-confidence. Self-confidence, self-esteem and a positive attitude about ones abilities are important to optimum performance." According to an article by Michael D. Lemonick, "Lifting your spirits can be potent medicine." (TIME Magazine Online, January 20, 2003 - The Power of Mood)
So what is 'BizNiche Vision'? It is a unique perception of who you are; what you want to do; and your unique ability to do it. It's using the 'Color of Your Parachute', to 'Move Your Own Cheese', or 'Push the Envelope' wherever you like. It's knowing that 'Self Matters' and doing something about it. It's recognizing opportunities and learning to Mind Your Own BizNiche! (Writer's Club Press, Inc., May 2002), by Mary N. Squire.
'A BizNiche is a personalized Business Niche. It's that thing you do because you are you. It's the entrepreneurial idea you discover when you mix courage and creativity; passion and personality; reality and resources. A BizNiche is the intersection between your bills and your being. It's your heart's answer to life's economic questions. A BizNiche is meeting your own needs through meeting the needs of others. In your own business, or working for someone else, a BizNiche is a unique expression of your talent, your spirit, and your ideas, channeled into opportunities that create success.'
Can we really "Think ('BizNiche') and Grow Rich?" The Consortium for Research on Emotional Intelligence in Organization (www.eiconsortium.org) has confirmed the notion that to some extent, attitude does determine aptitude. Based on recent studies, there is a definite correlation between emotional intelligence and the economic value of job performance. So how do you turn a "mood ring" blue, change a "lay-off" into a "lift-off," and get the 'big bucks' after getting the 'boot'? Embrace the change, and keep in mind that "as the pace of change increases and the world of work makes ever greater demands on a persons cognitive, emotional, and physical resources, this particular set of abilities will become increasingly important." (CREIO)
Apparently, someone's getting the message. With more than 8.3 million Americans currently out of work, a growing number of "pink slips" are being cashed in for little "green" ones. USA Today reports that many Americans have been forced into "wrenching and profound shifts in their work priorities and aspirations" as a result of 9/11 and subsequent economic changes. New business start-ups among the nation's unemployed managers and executives certainly reflect these changing attitudes, as 11.4 percent started their own companies between January and June of 2002. This represents a 44 percent increase over the same period one year earlier. Within the age group of individuals under 40, new business ownership increased from 25 percent in the fourth quarter of last year to 36 percent in the first quarter of 2002, and continued to climb as high as 39 percent in the second quarter. Female business ownership is also on the rise.
Mind Your Own BizNiche! (Writer's Club Press, Inc., May 2002) is a guide to the creative process of self-discovery, personal inventory, and affirmation required to lay a foundation for BizNiche success.' The book contains 13 inspirational and informative chapters, which include true stories of BizNiche concepts at work. "Be careful!," Squire warns, "This may look like a book, but its actually much more than that. Its a powerful tool that may soon ignite the flames of your passions; encouraging you to start brainstorming, believing, and building momentum for your dreams (again?).'
