NEW BATTERY SYSTEM FROM ENERSYS PROVIDES LONG BATTERY LIFE AND HIGH PERFORMANCE IN A COST-EFFECTIVE, EASY-TO-INSTALL RACK

NEW BATTERY SYSTEM FROM ENERSYS PROVIDES LONG BATTERY LIFE AND HIGH PERFORMANCE IN A COST-EFFECTIVE, EASY-TO-INSTALL RACK

Reading, PA, January 2003 -- EnerSys Inc. (formerly Yuasa, Inc.) Reserve Power Group has introduced a new battery system that combines an enhanced cell design with an integral racking system, which is easy to install and maintain. The new PowerSafe DDm battery system provides long service life and excellent performance for a variety of applications that require large capacity valve-regulated batteries, including telecommunications, power generation and distribution, and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) applications.

The cell design of the DDm incorporates thick 0.25" positive plates for an extremely long battery life of up to 20 years. The battery cells have welded epoxy, dual post seals that are 100% water bath tested in the factory and provide the highest seal integrity in the industry. Lead-casted terminal posts include a large threaded copper insert that enhances the high rate performance by providing maximum conductivity.

The PowerSafe DDm battery cells are encased in dedicated protective steel cans, or modules, that provide uniform and consistent compression for the life of the cell as well as cell protection during transport and installation. The module design incorporates thermal management that allows maximum airflow and the one-piece container construction helps improve leak resistance. The design also enables flexible configuration and cost-effective, fast and easy installation, even in difficult locations.

Unlike competitive systems, the EnerSys batteries do not have to be removed from the modules during installation. Users simply set up the rack and install the modules in configurations of 2, 3, 4 or 6 cells wide and up to 8 cells high. The system provides complete front access of the batteries for easy maintenance. Top termination is standard for shorter connection to the overhead bus, with optional side termination available.

The PowerSafe DDm batteries provide minimized maintenance costs, using proven gas recombinant valve-regulate lead-acid (VRLA) technology that eliminates the need for watering. In addition, a clear flame-retardant safety shield allows for easy visual inspection without battery removal. EnerSys offers a wide range of models from 200 Ah to 2000 Ah in a single cell. The new racking systems are certified to 1997 UBC Zone 4 and are UL-recognized.

Pricing for the PowerSafe DDm starts at $295. Delivery is 4-6 weeks ARO.
