Environmentally Responsible Septic System Available In Maine

A new type of low-impact septic system is available to homeowners in Maine. The system, developed by Aeration Systems of Falmouth, uses an advanced wastewater treatment unit called the OxyPro to remove pollutants and harmful substances from sewage. The cleaned wastewater is then disposed of using a network of pressurized drip-irrigation pipes buried about a foot under the lawn surface.

Falmouth - January 16, 2003     A new type of low-impact septic system is available to homeowners in Maine. The system, developed by Aeration Systems of Falmouth, uses an advanced wastewater treatment unit called the OxyPro to remove pollutants and harmful substances from sewage. The cleaned wastewater is then disposed of using a network of pressurized drip-irrigation pipes buried about a foot under the lawn surface. The most recent installation of this innovative system will replace a failing conventional system serving a home in Falmouth. This system offers several advantages over more conventional means of disposing of wastewater. The OxyPro and drip-irrigation combination usually takes up a smaller amount of space than traditional septic systems and can dramatically reduce the amount fill needed to install a system. Lesser amounts of fill often equate to less site disturbance and less visual impact caused by conventional septic system "mounds". This new system helps to minimize the release of pollutants into groundwater supplies and watersheds by using naturally occurring aerobic bacterial action to remove harmful substances prior to discharge of the water. The OxyPro system is designed to provide an ideal environment for these bacteria and other beneficial microorganisms to thrive and filter out pollutants. When combined with the drip irrigation system, the effluent from the OxyPro is reused to safely and effectively irrigate a portion, or even all of the lawn. Aeration Systems, LLC was founded in 2000 by a group of wastewater specialists having over 40 years of experience in dealing with wastewater treatment and disposal issues in Maine. Aeration Systems is a past recipient of a scientific grant from the Maine Technical Institute to develop the OxyPro and other technologies in the wastewater field.
