Cultureflux.com Kicks Off the New Year in Style

DC's best online magazine for art and culture brings together readers for a post-New Year's bash.

Cultureflux.com, DC's hip, new online art and culture magazine, kicked off the New Year in typical Flux style.

More than 150 DC-culture enthusiasts filled the Spy Lounge and Felix in Adams Morgan to enjoy live music, appetizers, and Route 11 Potato Chips (featured in the January issue). Billed as a post-holiday gathering, the Cultureflux event was more of a bastion of DC art enthusiasts, sharing ideas, laughs, and apple martinis.

Politics of Love" columnist and managing editor, Jackie Ross (better known as Jackie-Oh!) said, "This is my hobby. I don't run marathons. I don't play softball. I write. I edit. And I mingle and enjoy people." And mingling was at its finest last night along with talk of the latest Cultureflux issue, which features stories about hot spots like Hotel Helix, the new Bossa restaurant and lounge in Adams Morgan, photographer Todd Hido's latest exhibit at the G Fine Art, jazz in Washington, and much more.

"Cultureflux.com is more than just an online magazine," said Sacha Cohen, the site's founder and editor-in-chief. "We offer a space on the Web for people to gather and then we take the online communal spirit live." A freelance journalist by day, Cohen and a collaborative of writers, designers, Web gurus, photographers, and illustrators host one event per month to promote the magazine and give readers a chance to meet and chat.

In December 2002, the site had more than 200,000 hits from readers interested in thought-provoking articles, commentary, and information about local art and cultural events. Whether discussing a provocative new art space, a stylish boutique, an up-and-coming musician, or an undiscovered artist, they are talking about it on the site and at the Cultureflux parties.
