Tie One On for Peace - The Peace Knot Project

The Peace Knot is a physical representation of our collective desire for peace. Messages are written, sewn or embroidered on strips of cloth, string, rope, etc., and tied or "knotted" to each other. As these strips are added we'll create a large spherical knot that can be rolled around and added to. In this way, all our wishes for peace are bound to each other by a common goal.

WHAT IS THE PEACE KNOT?
In response to the threat of yet another war, we have begun work on a large public art piece called the Peace Knot Project. The Peace Knot is a physical representation of our collective desire for peace on earth. Messages written, sewn or embroidered on strips of cloth, string, rope, etc., are tied or "knotted" to each other. As strips are added we'll create a large spherical knot that can be rolled around and added to. In this way, all our wishes for peace are bound to each other by a common goal. It will represent the voices of all who wish for peace. As more people add to the Peace Knot, it will continue to grow larger until it's too big to ignore.

Over 300 men, women and children contributed their messages of peace last Saturday, January 18, 2003 at the rally in San Franciscos Civic Center, where the core of the knot was assembled.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE
The Peace Knot is a public art piece, open to anyone who wishes to participate. There are no rules or restrictions. We ask only that your message be a true desire, wish, or prayer for peace. The more focused your message, the better. You may submit multiple messages. The Peace Knot represents the collective will of all who are willing to "tie one on for peace". To add your message, simply send an email to theknot@poetic.com. Include your name (or a made-up one), the place where you live (just city, state and or country) and one of our volunteers will tie a knot with your message of peace onto the Peace Knot. If you would like to participate in person just attend our next public exhibition, strips of cloth and pens will be provided, or feel free to bring your own. Check our website (www.peaceknot.com) for exhibition dates.

OUR GOALS
Our goals are to travel the Peace Knot to major cities around the country (and possibly around the world), publicly exhibiting at peace marches and demonstrations and art exhibitions. Eventually, when it becomes too large to move, we would like to find a permanent home for it or perhaps simply deposit it Outside the white house as a large message from the people. Email us if you would like us to join you at an upcoming peace march, demonstration or art exhibition.

VOLUNTEERS & SUPPORT
If you can offer support, or would like to be a part of the Peace Knot Project please drop us an email with your name and a telephone number where you can be reached. Email and inquiries can be sent to theknot@poetic.com
