Two Way Communication Provides Telecommunication Salvation

Axiom Reconciliation Engine Transforms Process Of Service Delivery - New product enables service providers to synchronize network, circuit and service data from multiple sources - Off the shelf snap-ins save time and money in integration - Able to recover stranded assets, saving time and costs - Automatic discrepancy reports drive customer loyalty

Axiom Systems today announced a new version of its IMS Reconciliation Engine, a superior synchronization system tried and tested over the last 12 months within some of Europes largest Service Providers (SPs). The Reconciliation Engine enables SPs to synchronize network, circuit and service data from multiple sources through providing two-way interaction with the network, network element managers and other inventory platforms allowing uploading and downloading of real-time information.

Given the scale of network moves and changes, the ability to automatically synchronise the network inventory in this way has been shown to save significant amounts of time and operational costs in the management of todays global network infrastructures. But there are additional benefits of using the AXiOSS Reconciliation Engine, with four market drivers for this market leading approach:

(i) Axiom provides off-the-shelf SAFE Snap-Ins* which save time and money during the process of integration.
(ii) A series of pre-configured, off-the-shelf SAFE Snap-Ins enable the Engine to communicate with the network and element management system, uploading the data from the network using standard communications protocols such as SNMP, Telnet and Corba.
(iii) The Reconciliation Engine provides the capabilities to listen to events from the network as well as providing an operator driven upload, which enables automation fashioned for inventory reconciliation. Keeping the network synchronised through this process of automated upload, it can be scheduled to reduce bandwidth overhead or activated 'on demand. The Reconciliation Engine is able to do this proactively or reactively through the listening feature across a whole network or, for one or more devices.
(iv) Automatic discrepancy reports notify the user in real-time so that they can react accordingly and inform the customer of any delays before they are kept waiting.

The benefits of the Reconciliation Engine enable it to be used to recover stranded assets that may appear to be in use based on inventory records, but which are not actually linked to a customer or service. Typically, 50 per cent of most medium-to-large carrier network capacity is lost or abandoned due to poor inventory tracking methods.

Axiom CTO, Gareth Senior explains the importance of the new version of this product, In a mission critical environment it is essential that Service Providers receive the most up to date information from their network, so that resources can be made available immediately and network capacity can maximised. Network versatility reaps the rewards as customers appreciate the fast and accurate service and stay with the Service Provider longer, ordering further services.

The Reconciliation Engine has a J2EE architecture, offering the scalability demanded by carriers with larger networks and substantial amounts of day-to-day change. It is part of the AXiOSS product suite, comprising O2S (Order to service), IMS (Inventory Management System) and SAFE (Service Activation Framework Environment).

  • A Snap-In enables AXiOSS SAFE to communicate with other systems.

A Snap-In generally consists of a protocol adapter, which enables the AXiOSS Suite to "speak" a certain protocol (e.g. CORBA, HTTP, SNMP, TIBCO, XML), and a device adapter, which uses these protocols to direct a particular system (usually another OSS system), such as the Alcatel 5620, or the Cisco CNS Configuration Engine to perform various functions.
