SBLI USA TO HONOR FORMER PRESIDENT JIMMY CARTER AT THIRD ANNUAL GALA RECOGNIZING OUTSTANDING ASSOCIATES

Habitat for Humanity International Named Beneficiary for Funds Raised at Gala, Raffle and Silent Auction

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- January 22, 2003 -- SBLI USA Mutual Life Insurance Company, Inc. will present its Goodwill Ambassador Award to former President Jimmy Carter, winner of the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize, at its annual Gala this Saturday, January 25th. The award will be one of many that the financial services company will distribute during its annual tribute to its exemplary associates and business partners.

In addition to the awards, the company will use the black-tie event to raise an estimated $100,000, which will be donated to Habitat for Humanity International. SBLI USA selected this charitable organization because both SBLI USA and Habitat for Humanity International share the values of community building, volunteerism and empowering Americas working families.

Accepting the Goodwill Ambassador Award and the donation will be Hamilton Jordan, Mr. Carters former Chief of Staff. Jordan, an author and Habitat for Humanity volunteer, is the nephew of Clarence Jordan, a spiritual founder of Habitat for Humanity International.

In the United States today, an estimated one million people are homeless. The problem has reached crisis proportions in both New York City and Newark, the cities where our two largest offices are located," said SBLI USA President and CEO Vikki L. Pryor. Additionally, Diana Villiers Negroponte, a member of Habitat for Humanity Internationals board of directors and the wife of the United States Ambassador to the United Nations John D. Negroponte, will be accepting a Community Service Award for Habitat for Humanity from SBLI USA.

This years Gala, themed Overcoming the Odds...Reaching for the Stars," will applaud SBLI USAs associates, business partners and vendors and will include raffles and a silent auction. The evening will end with its most important element, a ceremony at which eight outstanding associates and two business partners will be applauded for their contributions and dedication to SBLI USAs mission of serving value-conscious working Americans.
