The Marine Mammal Center begins pre-registration for the Annual Run For The Seals" Race

Registration is now open for the 21st annual "Run For The Seals" race that take place Saturday, March 8th in the Marin Headlands, Sausalito, California. The race begins at 9am with check-in at 7:30am. Proceeds benefit The Marine Mammal Center a marine hospital for ill or injured sea mammals. Cost is $25 if registered before Feb. 28th ($26 online), $30 on race day.

The San Francisco Giants Lou Seal" to greet runners and spectators

(SAUSALITO, Calif. - January 25, 2003): The Marine Mammal Center is proud to present the 21st annual Run For The Seals race, Saturday, March 8, 2003 at Rodeo Beach in the Marin Headlands, Sausalito. The four-mile race begins at 9am and is open to runners, walkers, families and even dogs. Proceeds benefit The Marine Mammal Center. Prizes will be awarded to top finishers in various age categories and all registrants will receive a commemorative Run For The Seals t-shirt. The public is invited to cheer on the runners and meet the San Francisco Giants marine mascot, Lou Seal. There will be kayaking demonstrations courtesy of Sea Trek, and participants can learn more about the Marin Humane Societys micro-chip pet identity program. Docents from The Center will also be on-hand to provide fascinating facts about patients on-site and to answer questions.

Run For The Seals is a wonderfully fun event that allows the Bay Area community to see what we do, enjoy the beauty of the Marin Headlands, and help us raise money to continue our mission, said B. J. Griffin, Executive Director of The Center. We are also very excited that the San Francisco Giants will be partnering with The Center throughout 2003 to help us in our educational efforts. Our commitment to rescuing and rehabilitating stranded and ill animals, as well as extending our public education message, continues to grow stronger as we enter into our 28th year of operation."

Pre-registration for the race is strongly advised. The cost is $25 for mailed entries marked before February 28th, ($26 for online orders) and then $30 through the day of the race. The Marine Mammal Center is a non-profit hospital dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of wild marine mammals that are ill, injured or orphaned, along 600 miles of northern and central California coastline. Since 1975, The Center has worked with nearly 10,000 marine mammals. It uniquely combines its rehabilitation program with scientific discovery and education programs throughout the Bay Area and the world, to advance the understanding of marine mammal health, ocean health and to promote conservation.
