Charity Silent Auction and Wine Tasting at Massimo da Milano Restaurant
Saturday, April 12th

18 January 2003 -- CLEVELAND: Corkscrews Wine Club -- since 2000 educating our members on the pleasures of wine tasting in an enjoyable social atmosphere -- will hold their second annual charity event to benefit Roots of Peace, on Saturday, April 12th at Massimo da Milano restaurant (corner of West 25th and Detroit Road).    The event will include a silent auction to benefit this humanitarian organization, and a wine tasting of California wines to introduce our guests to the joys of tasting wine in a relaxed social atmosphere. Last years event raised $3,500, which was used in a demining effort in Afghanistan.

Roots of Peace is a humanitarian organization dedicated to eradicating landmines worldwide and rehabilitating the land to make it productive once more. The roots of this organization are in the heart of Californias wine country. This organization is committed to the vintners legacy of respect for the earth and its power to give and sustain life. With the generous support of the entire California wine industry, along with many other public and private organizations, Roots of Peace is beginning to make progress toward realizing their goal of turning Mines into Vines." In the spring of 2000, Roots of Peace completed its first Mines into Vines" initiative by successfully demining hundreds of acres of land in war-torn Croatia. They replanted the grapes that once flourished in the region and helped to restore hope to the people who live there. Roots of Peace concentrates on landmine areas that are conducive to lasting success, where the hostilities that brought the mines no longer exist. Future plans for demining include other countries that are ripe for planting the roots of peace-rice in Cambodia, coffee in Angola, cashews in Mozambique, figs in Lebanon. Roots of Peace ultimate vision is a safer planet and a more hopeful future for all.

Tickets for the silent auction and wine tasting are $35.00 per person and can be ordered by calling (216) 521-2894.
