HomMed Telemonitor Sales Jump More Than 85% in 2002

-Growth Attributed to Acceptance of Innovative Technology as an Answer to Challenges Facing Healthcare Providers-

Brookfield, Wis. (PRWEB) January 26, 2003 - Sales of HomMed home health telemonitoring systems grew more than 85 percent during 2002, easily exceeding $20 million. The skyrocketing sales are due to a continuing surge in the number of home health care agencies through which the HomMed system is available, according to Herschel Buzz" Peddicord, founder and president of HomMed.

As word spreads about the benefits of the HomMed telemonitoring system, more home health care agencies want to help their patients with the system." As recently as August, he noted, the HomMed telemonitor was being used by fewer than 100 health care agencies. That number has risen to almost 140 and continues to grow.

Healthcare professionals are finding that the telemonitor helps keep their patients healthier because patients are monitored daily, and early interventions can be provided as needed," Peddicord added. And because patients using the telemonitor need fewer emergency room visits and hospitalizations, the cost of healthcare drops."

Another factor in HomMeds increasing sales, according to Peddicord, is that healthcare agencies are seeing that the telemonitoring system allows them to serve more patients with the same number of nurses, because nursing visits are scheduled only once per week instead of twice. Theyre realizing that the telemonitoring system is an effective measure against the severe nursing shortage," he said.

The HomMed telemonitoring system was used with more than 20,000 patients during 2002, Peddicord noted. Now, individuals are asking for the HomMed telemonitor because theyve heard about the health benefits, its ease of use and the peace of mind daily monitoring brings."

HomMeds booming sales also reflect an increasing demand for the companys telemonitors in the face of an aging population, the nursing shortage and the looming threat of a physician shortage," Peddicord said. He noted that a study by one healthcare trade publication points to a deficit of 200,000 physicians by 2020.

That makes the HomMed telemonitoring system all the more necessary," he said, because it helps keep patients healthy and at home, instead of in emergency rooms and hospitals. The market is clearly telling us that the HomMed telemonitor is the right system coming along at just the right time."
