Kimberly Wells-Bernard, Patricia Blythe and Melissa Brickhouse were the 2002 winners of Essence Entrepreneur of the Year Contest sponsored by Microsoft bCentral. Their winning business plan entry for a webzine for young teens was developed by the three womena after they realized that the all too important black female teen demographic was lacking an entertainment vehicle that addressed specific issues directly affecting the black teen girl. The aim is to provide a quality lifestyle webzine for the black female teen that will serve as a primary electronic information resource during their "blooming" years (13-18), states co-founder Kimberly Wells-Bernard.
