VDS Announces Revolutionary One Look Delivery Manager"
Conyers, Georgia- Virtual Delivery Source (VDS) announced today a major new development of its revolutionary e-Logistics management of delivery systems.
Conyers, Georgia- Virtual Delivery Source (VDS) announced today a major new development of its revolutionary e-Logistics management of delivery systems. The announcement focused on a new upgrade to its e-Logistics One Look System" as well as its release into field testing of the One Look Delivery Manager" module. The One Look System" is a horizontally integrated transportation management system designed to manage contracts, shipments, bills of lading, and freight bills for all modes of transportation including last mile delivery. It is powered by Microsofts SQL Server and is written entirely in Java to assure reliable operation through the internet without the need to install any software on your local computers. One Look" can also be licensed for companies with high volumes of shipments. This product competes very well with systems that cost seven figures", says Mark Wright, Chief Technical Officer of VDS. Wright, who worked as Director of Application Development for Atlanta Gas Light and who implemented a 25 million dollar automated dispatch system, says The technology today is perfect for low-cost design and maintenance by using web-based products."
VDS President, Edward Tracey states, Although our business model is focused on collaborating delivery for manufacturers, distributors or 3PLs, who deliver directly to retailers or to consumers, our primary focus with our 'One Look Delivery Manager product is to assist the last mile trucking industry owner in managing his or her local operation. If you can develop technology that brings the last mile delivery industry into the 21st century with seamless interfaces to their customers, then the missing link to a high quality delivery has finally been resolved." Tracey continues, the One Look Delivery Manager" module assists the last mile provider by allowing him to import all shipments from any TMS (Transportation Management System), OMS (Order Management System), WMS Warehouse Managemtn Ssytem or the VDS 'One Look System, and then manage routing, (including truck manifests), appointments, (including automated appointment calling), driver and helper compensation, summary invoicing, financial and performance reporting."
According to Tracey, The transportation industry has invented many verticals that they believe will give them an edge over the competition. I predict that over the next five years, shippers trends will turn to web- based ASP ( ----) platforms that give themselves independence from any particular provider. The reason being, that they need internal systems that allow them to be flexible and measure a company by their performance and not by how dependent they are on any one transportation providers technology. This is especially true for 3PLs." The VDS philosophy is that technology should be designed to be used in a horizontal environment and in universal languages; so that there is no pain to a shipper that awards new contracts to a provider with different back- end technology.
VDS designed and built Delivery Manager by working with two well respected last mile companies over a six month period. Wright states, The Delivery Manager was designed to be very user-friendly and takes into account that most small, last mile providers do not have large IT budgets." Delivery Manager works in conjunction with mapping software at three levels. For the limited user, Delivery Manager is integrated with Microsoft MapPoint; for a larger commercial user, we suggest PC Miler Streets from ALK Technologies; and for the high volume commercial user who has the need to route, manage and have constant visibility of eight or more trucks per day, we highly recommend the Arc Logistics mapping tool from ESRI.
The beauty of the VDS platform is that its architecture is designed to integrate with almost all systems, proprietary or otherwise. After many months of design and beta testing, weve found the return on investment may be paid back within the first two months," states Tracey. The strength of this technology is that it allows for centralizing operations for routing, appointment setting and driver compensation. Whether the transportation company is a quarter million dollar company or a 30 million dollar company, this product is scalable and totally affordable.
The backbone of the One Look System" allows collaboration between vendors, retailers, and transportation companies without having to have multiple points of contact. Don Phelps, VP of Sales, states, Most TMS programs are designed for manufacturers to have visibility to and from another dock by one mode of transportation albeit rail, air, LTL, or truckload. Most systems dont offer visibility all the way to the consumer. 'One Look System has a network of last mile capability built in. Serving the last mile industry has added a whole new dimension to our value proposition. Imagine being a retailer who needs to make a delivery to a consumer who lives in North Dakota. Where do you go?" Don continues, You can now search the VDS database, locate that last mile provider, call them directly, and then tender that shipment to them directly through the 'One Look System.
Phelps concludes, Whether youre a broker, shipper, or transportation company, the 'One Look System is the answer for your transportation platform needs. Connecting the dots is the name of the game and that is what the VDS system does."
