While working at the St. Croix Chamber of Commerce, Bruton realized a definite need for this book. People called the St. Croix Chamber of Commerce and St.Thomas/St.John Chamber for relocation information and since updated information wasnt available, Bruton decided to fill the void. She began her research and discovered the owners of the publication, Settlers Handbook for the U.S. Virgin Islands, were willing to sell the rights to the book. The book has been around some 30 years and hadnt been updated for seven years. "The Settlers Handbook for the U.S. Virgin Islands is very helpful," said Bruton, "because it provides a wealth of information on how to move here, what to expect (local humor thrown in), how to move your car, how to register it, how to move pets, whether to buy, rent or build, realtor info, a brief overview of history and culture, churches, schools, health care, inter-island transportation and the marine industry."

After seven months of researching and revamping, and with the help of various government departments to confirm information, including incentives and tax benefits for relocating a business to the Territory, licensing requirements and the Internal Revenue Bureau, and calling utilities for their rates, checking all the old phone numbers in the book, getting new pictures, and reading through tons of proofs, the book is now available to the public. While things change quickly in the territory, this book has tried to be generic wherever possible.
