PRESS RELEASE FROM THE
INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF PLANNING ENGINEERS
ISSUE DATE 26 January 2003

A virtual headquarters building is established for a truly international engineering association. Where is the IAPE based? Nowhere, at eHQ House. Seamlessly crossing borders and timezones, with members in 34 countries. The International Association of Planning Engineers recognises no borders, no barriers, no divides. Our members are Planning Engineers, regardless of nationality, gender, race, religion, ethnicity, or creed.

The International Association of Planning Engineers will operate entirely from its virtual headquarters, eHQ House. With members from 34 countries, the Association will represent its members in the rapidly emerging specialist field of Project Planning. eHQ House will unite engineers around the world, crossing geographic barriers and time zones, and is a great endorsement of the truly international path that engineering and project management is taking in the 21st century.

Our virtual headquarters, eHQ House, can be visited at www.planning-engineer.com and has been designed to represent a multi-storey office block, with different departments, rooms and offices. It is open 24 hours a day, and easily accessible by any of our members, from virtually anywhere in the world. Visitors enter the reception area, and from there to the floor and room they wish to visit in eHQ House.

What are the formal aims and goals of the Association of Planning Engineers?

Our Mission Statement is to promote high standards of professionalism throughout the planning sector, and provide the information, qualifications, and skills, to help members develop their careers, and thereby provide excellent services to the relevant industry. Planning Engineers will be acknowledged as the qualified professionals that they are, and Planning Engineering given the recognition it duly deserves, as a specialist field in its own right. Our development of a professional engineering culture, in tune with the present needs of industry, and with a vision of the future, will ensure that all Planning Engineers are given the status and resultant benefits they truly deserve in the 21st century.

What is Planning"

Planning" covers the section of Project Management that enables the completion of projects on time, within budget, and with the required level of technical quality. The project itself may be in any field of industry, from building a refinery, through designing a new mobile phone, to introducing new software into a department. The type of project is unlimited, but all projects do require a plan, with activities, durations, resources, and costs. The plan is usually represented as a Gantt chart and a PERT chart, and created and driven by very specialist software programs.

Preparing a plan for a project means defining and co-ordinating the tasks and activities in a project, preparing work schedules, allocating resources and budget costs to the work sections, and producing the graphical and tabular reports to enable the management to control and complete the project successfully.
