The Arab Advisors Group launches its Media Strategic Research Service

The service provides the first primary research based methodical approach to analysing the Arab Worlds media industry. The annual subscription service enables stakeholders in the media industry to receive insightful analysis of the industry trends to be able to plan and execute their strategies based on reliable research, analysis and forecasts of the media industry.

Responding to the recent significant growth in the media industry in the Arab World, Arab Advisors Group has launched its Media Strategic Research Service covering the regional media industry in the Arab world. Subscribers to the service receive individual country reports, regional industry and research notes published throughout the year, guaranteed to present a comprehensive and in-depth analysis of the media industry in the Arab world.

Arab Advisors Group is the leading research and analysis house in the Arab world covering the communications, media, and information technology industries with flagship clients including global vendors like Intel, Cisco and Motorola, global development agency World Bank, Intelsat, and consulting companies such as Booz Allen Hamilton International, in addition to regional blue chip companies such as Etisalat, Batelco and Jordan Telecom.

"Arab Advisors Group has decided to leverage its extensive research experience, knowledge base, and media industry experience and know-how to provide the first service of its kind that will provide reliable, accurate, and trusted coverage of the media industry in the Arab world," said Khaldoon Tabaza, Director & co-founder of Arab Advisors Group.

Asked about the timing of the service launch, Tabaza said the media industry in the region nowadays is undergoing rapid changes that include entrance of new players, expansion of existing ones, consolidation amongst the various players, and competition between vendors, and service providers. Also countries are attracting investors and media companies to establish base such as UAE, Egypt, and Jordan. "Furthermore, the recent global tension and conflicts have once again focused attention on the Arab word and further highlighted the tremendous power of media in shaping public opinion and perception," he pointed out.

The media research service will cover the various aspects of the media industry including television, radio, print, music, film, and online sectors of the industry.

During the past year, the Arab world boosted a vibrant and growing media industry. According to Dubai Media City, The Dubai Media City's tenant list swelled to 560 as of end 2002 from 190 a year before. Also in the past few years, the satellite TV channels have witnessed a renaissance with the emergence of new channels such and the interactive music channel Melody TV and the brand new MBC2.

Industry expert Zeid Nasser agrees with Tabaza on the significant growth the media industry in the Arab World is going through.

"At the moment, there is a lot of restructuring going on in the region's media industries. In TV, in particular, things look very different now," said Nasser. "The rise of pay-TV, the shake-up in programming and alliances that shifted programming power back and forth between Orbit, Showtime and ART has created a very mature and highly competitive pay-TV sector," pointed out Nasser.

"All in all, the Middle East media is rather advanced in the sense that it offers, virtually, all the media vehicles that clients could expect to find in mature media markets," he concluded.

Co-founder and President of Arab Advisors Group, Jawad Abbassi believes establishing the Media Strategic Research Service is a natural progression for the company.

"It is all about convergence. The media, IT and telecommunications industries have been converging for the pest years. After comprehensively and reliably covering the Arab Worlds telecom, datacomm and Internet markets over the past 2 years, enhancing our coverage of the media industry by launching a dedicated service was the next logical step. Our Communications Strategic Research Service has served more than 60 global and regional clients to date," said Abbassi. "The Media Strategic Research Service will serve the research needs for all stakeholders in the Arab Worlds media industry including vendors, operators, regulators and investors" he added.
