SAN FRANCISCO- APE, the Alternative Press Expo, swings into the Concourse Exhibition Center at 620 7th St., San Francisco, CA on February 1 and 2, 2003. The annual event salutes the independent comic spirit, featuring self-publishers, alternative comics and small press creators from around the country.
Kicking off the 2003 comic book convention season, APE has moved to a larger, more exciting venue: The San Francisco Concourse Exhibition Center. Visitors to the event will be able to meet comic creators, and artists, discover new and exciting books, and attend fun and informative panel discussions.
APE has two full days of programming planned, including spotlights on special guests Chynna Clugston-Major, Howard Cruse, Jhonen Vasquez, and Robert Williams; as well as special programming saluting the 10th anniversaries of Terry Moore's Strangers in Paradise, and Alternative Comics. The weekend also features an extra special program focusing on the original Underground Comix movement with such founding members as Spain, S. Clay Wilson and others. As always, a full schedule of APE programs appears on www.comic-con.org.
Last year APE attracted well over 3,000 attendees making it the best-attended show of any Independent, Self-published or Alternative comics show in the United States.
The Alternative Press Expo is run under the auspices of Comic-Con International. A non profit educational organization dedicated to creating awareness of and appreciation for comics and related popular art forms, primarily through the presentation of conventions and events that celebrate the historic and ongoing contribution of comics to art and culture.
APE runs from 12-6 PM, Saturday February 1, and 11-5 PM, Sunday February 2, 2003.
