Ryan Gosling's latest indie film defies Super Bowl Weekend!

The Slaughter Rule (Cowboy Pictures) defies Super Bowl Weekend to advance up the Box Office Charts. Two more cities added to screening schedule.

Ryan Gosling, fresh off the Sundance premiere of his latest acclaimed indie film, THE UNITED STATES OF LELAND, scored another success at the box office with his indie film, THE SLAUGHTER RULE, co-starring David Morse and directed by Andrew and Alex Smith.

THE SLAUGHTER RULE, which faced Super Bowl weekend, soared up 37.21% at the box office this past weekend to move from 109th place up to 89th place and scored its highest per screen average since its limited release - according to the latest figures from Exhibitor Relations. Adding to the film's success was that it accomplished its gain on just 2 screens. At its Los Angeles premiere on January 24th at the Arclight Theatre, an eager post-Sundance audience flocked to see rising star, Ryan Gosling's latest theatrical release.

The promising results encouraged distributor Cowboy Pictures to add two more cities to its release schedule - Iowa City and Spokane. SLAUGHTER RULE co-star, David Morse, will be doing a post-screening Q&A on Feb 9th in Philadelphia while director, Andrew Smith, will be speaking in Iowa City.

THE SLAUGHTER RULE is a hauntingly beautiful story exploring themes of manhood in the rough and tumble landscape of rural Montana. In the tradition of THE LAST PICTURE SHOW, the film vividly depicts the harsh life of a teenage boy coming of age in today's American west. Ryan Gosling (The Believer, Murder By Numbers) plays "Roy," a sensitive young man grappling with the death of his father and his identity as a tough kid in a tough land. David Morse (The Green Mile, Dancer in the Dark, Hearts In Atlantis) is "Gid," a derelict of a man who recruits Roy to play on his 6-man football team, and whose past haunts both he and Roy. Shot in Widescreen (super) 35mm, the film is a poetic ode to growing up wild in America. The excellent supporting cast includes Clea Duvall (Girl, Interrupted, The Laramie Project) as Roy's complex love interest along with Kelly Lynch (Charlie's Angels), David Cale (Pollock) and Eddie Spears in a starring debut performance.

THE SLAUGHTER RULE is in limited release. http://www.cowboypictures.com/slaughterrule/schedule.htm">Click here for the release schedule.
