Misguided Optimism and Mediocre Thinking Detected in State of the Union Addresses
Analysing President Bush's highest priority in his State of the Union addresses at http://www.optimalthinking.com/state.html , Rosalene Glickman, Ph.D., cognitive media consultant, and author of Optimal Thinking: How to Be Your Best Self (John Wiley & Sons, 2002), has expressed her concern over the preponderence of misguided optimism (hoping for the best) and mediocre thinking.
Dr. Glickman emphasizes: "When the cost of failure and/or the probability of failure is high, optimism is the wrong strategy. With the current threat of terrorism, we can't afford to hope for the best or settle for second best by thinking suboptimally.

Dr. Glickman emphasizes: "When the cost of failure and/or the probability of failure is high, optimism is the wrong strategy. With the current threat of terrorism, we can't afford to hope for the best or settle for second best by thinking suboptimally. We must optimize -- rather than improve or manage -- our situation by asking optimal questions to invite optimal solutions. Optimal Thinking is what we need right now. It's the fail-safe style of thinking whose time has come."
Dr. Glickman is currently available for media interviews to comment further on the strengths and shortcomings of previous State of the Union addresses -- and the 2003 State of the Union address. She will explain how to create the most constructive solutions in even the most difficult circumstances.
