WRITERS, POETS, PLAYWRIGHTS, SCREENWRITERS, ARTISTS! WEBSITE OFFERS VISIONARIES MAJOR VENUES: A CALL FOR MANUSCRIPTS AND STATEMENT OF ETHICS
Having trouble with the publishers? Writing too inflammatory, too probing, too well researched, too passionate, too intelligent, too confrontational, too articulate-not enough status-quo? Your best work could find a home at the Howling Dog Press website, as well as possible publication in an HDP anthology or single-author, bound, book-in-print.
Howling Dog Press opens new venues for the publication of, among other quality writing, anti-war and anti-tyranny literary works and visual art. An unintimidated, often defiant, literary legacy is absolutely essential to world peace and harmony, the elevation of human dignity, the coalescence of human spirit, and the preservation of the rights of Man and manifest liberty. Those works in all genres intelligent and courageous enough to confront head-on the important issues of our own time--many of which shall remain timeless--whether socially, culturally, or politically, are not passive statements, but rather necessary acts of civil disobedience to demonstrate not only to the present powers-that-be, but moreover, to future generations of the powerful and powerless the resolve and conviction of we who presently have been given the responsibility of making Earth a safe and habitable planet.
The sealing off of vision, the paving over of conscience, the spineless tinkering passing for innovative genius, the elitist pap of affectated literary cults, and the good-natured banter of celebrated navel-gazing have been a cultural disaster of the last decade, and has produced a discount market surplus of corporate advertising dogma. It has equated to just not much to say, but say it quietly and correctly, for the hand and the treasury of the court."
In vivid contradistinction, Howling Dog Press sustains passion and power, works of substance and meaning, while not disparaging work because it is politically or socially incorrect"-particularly that work running counter to the dead-thought of global corporate machinery, and the literature that shamelessly supports and preserves its grip on what is most generously termed-and it takes effort for me to get this word out in this context-"art"; while simultaneously distorting the worth of their achievements" to infer that the condition of literature and art they have churned forth is anything beyond bankrupt cultural squalor.
Howling Dog Press appreciates work that demonstrates we were not all asleep when the enemies of peace, liberty, justice, compassion, and the global biosphere were so busy in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. Howling Dog Press champions that which expresses originality and uniqueness in a non-compromised manner. However, Howling Dog Press rejects work that is much like what weve read a thousand times before. Being committed to abolishing the well-groomed literary, psychological, philosophical, religious, and geographical borders, fashion means little, cowardice less.
In this age of polarization, including extreme riches for the few and destitute poverty for the many, if you as a writer or artist are concerned with being tagged a leftist, communist, socialist, or any other handy and rote stigmatic label intended to suppress dissent and preserve tyranny, you should not contribute or otherwise submit work-you run the risk of being tarred, feathered, and aggressively slandered, perhaps inquisitioned, with the rest of us. But , for others, worthy of the descriptions poet" or artist," who know the probability of their phone already being tapped, and their dossier" thickening by the day-yet, frankly dont give a damn-look to Howling Dog Press to have your say.
To bear the torch of Dante, Rabelais, Villon, Montaigne, Swift, Hugo, Voltaire, Dostoevsky, Twain, Hopkins, Lewis, Orwell, Borchert, Bonhoeffer, Celan, Mann, Akhmatova, Traven, Machado, Garcia Lorca, Tzara, Kovner, Trumbo, Langston Hughes, Aldous Huxley, William S. Burroughs, the Berrigans, Martin Luther King, Ginsberg, Wiesel, Solzhenitsyn, and others, is more than a high calling. It is a commission beckoning writers and artists of this brave new world order" who-despite the static interference and hypocritical propaganda of the wardens of the way; those who find no guilt in calling truth bombast" and bombast truth"-will produce a few lines of earth-shaking poetry or prose that may just last 500 years.
Howling Dog Press features some of the strongest, contemporary, non-compromised anti-war and anti-tyranny writing on the web. Its scope is international and timeless, and many of the authors and artists already represented have achieved credits, honors, and awards of the highest merit. We invite you to prepare your manuscripts for submission by the deadlines given. Use our guidelines to help us balance our time and get back to you "quam primum," as the editors--like our contributors--are often overworked and underpaid. Separate guidelines are provided for the following categories: POETRY, NOVELS & NOVELLAS, SHORT FICTION, CREATIVE NON-FICTION, DRAMATIC WORKS & SCREENWRITING, and OMEGA Online Journal of Literary Arts.
We welcome links to organizations and publications dedicated to peace, justice, and truth-most urgently and prominently, the prevention of war with Iraq. We admire the muckraking tradition and seek the heirs of Upton Sinclair, Lincoln Steffens, William Alan White, and others, as contributors-and possible web LINKs. We are determined to see corruption exposed and ecological outrages stopped.
