America
Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell of America have been playing rock and roll together now for 27 years. Their first album, the legendary "America" in 1971, included the classic, "Horse With No Name" and produced one of the most stunning, popular, and dynamic recordings in the history of rock. America was honored in 1972 with a Grammy Award for Best New Artist. Tin Man," Ventura Highway," Sister Golden Hair," and many other great hits will be rocking the house with an appealing blend of rock, pop, and folk sounds.
In Case You Wondered....
The band explains the origin of their name, We were living in England at the time, our fathers were all in the US Air Force stationed outside of London. Dan and Dewey were working in a cafeteria on the Base where there was a jukebox called "The Americana" in the corner. That's where we got the idea and the more we thought about it the better it seemed to explain our origins. It did get a little confusing when we finally did come to the States to perform the ads said 'Live from England ... America!"
Recent Chart Toppers
Janet Jackson's latest Billboard Hot 100 song, "Someone To Call My Lover" which samples America's 1972 hit song, "Ventura Highway," is great news for the songwriter, Dewey Bunnell, who has his first top 10 hit since America's "Tin Man" peaked at Number 4 some 27 years ago. "Ventura Highway," is the second-highest-ranked song of Bunnell's career - runner-up to the tune that brought America to America's attention earlier in 1972, "A Horse With No Name." Bunnell was the sole writer on that song, which spent three weeks at Number 1. As an artist, Bunnell was last in the top 10 in summer 1982, when "You Can Do Magic" went to Number 8."
