Critically acclaimed British singer-songwriter Michael Weston King will be celebrating the release of his new solo CD "A Decent Man" Â on UK label Floating World Â at Southgate House on February 13. With a voice part Nashville balladeer, part Alt-Country hero, has become one of British alt. countryÂs best-known faces. King has toured all over Europe with his band the Good Sons, and as a solo act, King has shared the bill with many great artists Â Nick Cave, Chris Hillman, Roger McGuinn, Wilco, Joe Henry, John Cale, Ron Sexsmith, Steve Earle, and Joe Ely among many others. King has earned a formidable reputation as a stunning live performer, whether itÂs the full-on, no-holds-barred country rockinÂ of the Good Sons, or the stark intensity of the solo singer songwriter. Audiences have compared KingÂs live performances to some of his favorite artists Tim Hardin and Phil Ochs. Such legendary songwriters as Townes Van Zandt and Carolyn Hester have also recorded KingÂs work.
International recording artist and bandleader Dave Hawkins has been practicing his craft for over 20 years and has worked with such artists as Grammy nominated Pat Kilbride and John Whelan and opened for such greats as; Dougie MacLean, Maria Muldaur, Andy M.Stewart. Characterized as a folk/celtic cross-over artist and eclectic songwriter Hawkins has been compared to the likes of Peter Yarrow, Leo Kottke, Buddy Holly, Steve Goodman, Phil Ochs and Lyle Lovett. Hawkins, a busy touring entertainer who sings his own songs and interprets othersÂ recently returned from a month long European tour in support of his latest record "Hotel DeVille."
King and Hawkins will be performing live at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 13 at Southgate House (Parlour Room), 24 East Third Street in Newport, Kentucky.
