Cedar Rapids, IA - Cedar Brewing Company's Black Cobra Stout was awarded the bronze medal in the dry stout category at the 2002 World Beer Championships competition held in Chicago, IL. The Black Cobra Stout is designed and brewed by the Cedar Brewing Company's Brewmaster, Mike Snyder, who has been brewing the ale since the brewpub's inception seven years ago in 1996. The World Beer Championship judges describe the world class stout as "Light brown hue. Smoky and burnt aromas follow through on a crisp, medium-bodied palate with a quick and lightly hoppy finish." Currently the Black Cobra Stout is available on tap at the Cedar Brewing Company and at the Old Chicago restaurant in Coralville, IA.

Since 1994, the World Beer Championships have been conducted by Chicago's Beverage Testing Institute (BTI), an independent company without affiliation to brewers, associations or any brewing event that specializes in flavor evaluations. The January to December competition judges approximately 1,000 beers each year. Over the years, BTI buying guides have appeared in The Chicago Tribune, The Washington Post, Wine Enthusiast, All About Beer, Restaurant Hospitality, Wine & Spirits, International Wine Review, AOL, epicurious.com, women.com, and many others. Additional information about BTI is available at http://www.tastings.com
