WATCHING THE SUPER BOWL CAN BE HAZARDOUS TO YOUR HEALTH: According to new NFO Plog Research study

A surprisingly large number of Super Bowl viewers report they eat more junk food on Super Bowl Sunday than almost any other day of the year, according to a recently completed NFO Plog Research Overnight Sports poll (P.R.O.S.) Other health risks correlated with the Super Bowl - car accidents!

(New Brunswick, N.J. -- January 24, 2003) Beware New Years resolution dieters - nearly one out of six people (15.1%) who plan to watch the Super Bowl report that they eat more junk food on Super Bowl Sunday than almost any other day of the year, according to an NFO Plog Research Overnight Sports poll (P.R.O.S.) NFO Plog Research is a wholly owned subsidiary of NFO WorldGroup.

Whats interesting is that this study shows that people that dont even plan to watch the Super Bowl report an eleven times greater likelihood to overindulge in junk foods on Super Bowl Sunday than an average day. Clearly, the tendency to overeat is not restricted simply to football fans -its become part of our culture," said Scott Ludwigsen, Executive Vice President of NFO Plog Research. This trend delivers a significant one-two health punch when coupled with the recently published study in the New England Journal of Medicine which found that traffic fatalities jump 41 percent in the hours following the Super Bowl."

P.R.O.S. is a monthly overnight on-line study conducted by NFO Plog Research on a variety of sports-related topics. The P.R.O.S. results are based upon 500 on-line surveys; 337 of whom are planning to watch Super Bowl XXXVII.

This most recent wave of P.R.O.S. was conducted during the evening of January 21st through the morning of January 22nd and yielded a 95% confidence level in the data with an error margin of +/- 3.9%.
