Mentoring Matters National Teleconference Friday, February 7, 2003 1:30-3:30 PM EST
The broadcast will focus on mentoring as a proven and effective approach to delinquency prevention; highlight examples of mentoring in community-based, work-based, faith-based and school-based settings; and share strategies for effective mentor recruitment. The broadcast objectives are to raise awareness of mentoring, examine mentoring in a variety of settings, present examples of successful recruitment strategies, and provide information and resources related to mentoring.
In The State of Union Address, January 29, 2003 , President George W. Bush asked Congress to provide $450 million in funding over three years for mentoring initiatives. Of that amount, the President is earmarking $100 million annually for Mentoring for Success and $50 million a year for a Children of Prisoners program that provides mentors to middle-school children whose parents are incarcerated.
The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), in association with the Juvenile Justice Telecommunications Assistance Project (JJTAP) of Eastern Kentucky University, is pleased to announce an upcoming live satellite videoconference highlighting the importance of mentoring.
The 2-hour broadcast, "Mentoring Matters" will be aired nationwide on Friday, February 7, 2003, from 1:30 to 3:30 P.M. EST. It will also be available for viewing on the World Wide Web.The broadcast will focus on mentoring as a proven and effective approach to delinquency prevention; highlight examples of mentoring in community-based, work-based, faith-based and school-based settings; and share strategies for effective mentor recruitment.
