SAN DIEGO, CA--The cover article in the February 2003 Teachers.Net Gazette examines teacher spending and how the new Teacher Tax Relief Act will impact U.S. educators.

With teachers of grades kindergarten through eight spending over 1 billion dollars of their own money each year on classroom materials, relief from these out of pocket expenditures seems appropriate. The new Teacher Tax Relief Act, allowing a deduction of up to $250 when computing the adjusted gross income, purports to provide necessary assistance. The Teachers.Net Gazette article describes the reality--how much teachers spend on what, and why, and how a large portion of the teaching community is ineligible for the benefit provided by the new and temporary law.
