Portwell introduced the world's first PICMG 1.2 (ePCI-X) single board computer with dual Intel?Xeon?processors and dual 64-bit Gigabit Ethernet interfaces

The ROBO-8820VG2 is based on IntelR E7501 server chipset with 533 MHz system bus. The combination with dual Intel?Xeon?processor optimized Intel?NetBurst?microarchitecture and the Hyper-Threading technology, which creates a balanced platform with unparalleled price-performance, scalability and flexibility. Coupled with the Intel?82546EB dual port Gigabit Ethernet controller, the board is a synergy of high computing and communication power to adapt to the diverse environment of medical/laboratory, industrial control and automation, instrumentation, data acquisition, transportation monitoring, COTS defense/aerospace and communication markets.

Taipei, Taiwan - January 29, 2003 - Portwell, Inc., a member of Intel Applied Computing Platform Provider (ACPP) program, is proud to announce the world's first dual Intel Xeon Processor based full-sized PICMG 1.2 SBC, ROBO-8820VG2. Together with a 64-bit dual bus ePCI-X backplane and a specially designed 2U chassis, a complete platform is rolled out as the solution to a wide variety of high-speed, data-intensive applications that require the highest levels of processing performance.

The ROBO-8820VG2 is based on IntelR E7501 server chipset with 533 MHz system bus. The combination with dual Intel?Xeon?processor optimized Intel®NetBurstmicroarchitecture and the Hyper-Threading technology, which creates a balanced platform with unparalleled price-performance, scalability and flexibility. Coupled with the Intel?82546EB dual port Gigabit Ethernet controller, the board is a synergy of high computing and communication power to adapt to the diverse environment of medical/laboratory, industrial control and automation,
instrumentation, data acquisition, transportation monitoring, COTS defense/aerospace and communication markets.

ROBO-8820VG2 utilizes DDR-200/266 memory to tremendously accelerate the speed of the data transaction, and it is capable of supporting up to 4 GB of registered DDR-200/266 ECC memory. Besides, the board also offers two independent PCI-X buses for further I/O expansion. The I/O bandwidth of PCI-X bus allows for delivering high volume of data traffic created by Gigabit Ethernet and SCSI. With dual independent bus design, it is flexible to accommodate legacy add-on cards with lower speed bus without sacrificing the performance of other high-speed add-on cards running in another bus.

A tailor-made thermal solution is provided to guarantee the highest reliability during the peak workloads. In order to maximize the high-bandwidth I/O architecture of Intel E7501, up to another four additional full speed PCI-X buses are available through a specially designed interface.

Key features of ROBO-8820VG2 include:

*Dual Intel?Xeon?processors
*Up to 4 GB of registered DDR-200/266 ECC memory
*Intel?82546EB for dual Gigabit Ethernet ports support
*Dual independent 64-bit PCI-X buses
*Tailor-made thermal solution
*Specially designed interface for up to another four additional full speed PCI-X
