Centralia presents Myth America at the Belt Theater on 37th Street
New York, NY -- February 9, 2003-- After the success of their musical, Generica," at the NY International Fringe Festival, Centralia returns to their patented form of spontaneous theater in Myth America. With their satirical look at American culture and human nature, Centralia breaks new ground in a new space -- The Belt Theater. Built in a converted belt factory, this eclectic space features church pews for seats, a metal spiral staircase, and a darkly lit bar in the lobby, making it a great fit for Centralias unique sensibility.
Myth America brings Centralia back to their roots. Combining the theatrical styles of long form improvisation, clowning, Commedia dell' Arte, mask work, and vaudeville. A cross between Blue Man Group and Monty Python, this all-new cornucopia of unrehearsed, theatrical delectability will delight with crazy make-em-ups, musical melodies and comical effrontery.
Composed of improv-mavens Jay Rhoderick, Matt Higgins, and Kevin Scott (all formerly members of the highly regarded Burn Manhattan), Centralia can boast of a 12-year-old ensemble, consistently delivering comedic characters, mythological worlds, and themes that pulse with primitive energy. Rounding out the team, is the incomparable musical talent of Joshua Sitron, who seamlessly scores each show with just the right combination of poignancy and irreverence. Centralias talent, showmanship, and experience makes Myth America one of the best values in New York theater.

The danger and the joy of the creative process are continuously in evidence: what could be more exhilarating to watch than that? Delicious and invigorating lunacy...they're smart, they're witty, they're genuinely funny, and they're perpetually on the edge."

The Upright Citizens Brigade isn't the only bunch of New Yorkers making it happen. Another ensemble with local roots is advancing the art in its own way."

Centralia is now the best troupe in New York City. That's just simple logic. Though each performer had their strengths, not one of them displayed a weakness."

Every Centralia show is flecked with sparks of magic, momentary glimpses of the fire of creation. This is a kind of theater that paints itself on the back of your mind, relying on your observation and imagination Go prepared to think as well as laugh. And then go again, as often as you like, because each show is a new revelation."
