Aculab to launch small scale variant of GroomerII at CeBIT 2003

At CeBIT 2003, Aculab will release a 1U variant of its flexible switching engine GroomerII.

At CeBIT 2003, Aculab, a leading provider of enabling technology for the communications market, will release a 1U variant of its flexible switching engine GroomerII.

Offering up to eight ports of E1 and T1 connectivity, the new 1U variant complements Aculabs highly successful 6U model.

It has been developed as a cost effective alternative for those who require all the functionality of GroomerII, but whose system capacity is unlikely to exceed eight ports.

Network operators, service providers, alternative carriers and switching equipment vendors, as well as systems integrators, all need to support protocol conversion and complex call routing between a variety of otherwise incompatible network interfaces.

GroomerII is a flexible switching engine that can be readily customised for a variety of such application requirements, helping to reduce costs and generate revenue.

GroomerII is typically deployed between private networks/PBX/ACD switches and public networks with disparate interfaces as well as being a lower cost alternative to a bespoke PBX solution. It may also be used within a telco network e.g., GroomerII can be deployed as new mobile switching platforms are added, or by an application service provider (ASP) to bypass the congested local access network with direct SS7 connection.

Protocols supported include SS7 and a wide range of common channel signalling (CCS e.g., ETS300, DPNSS and Q.SIG) and channel associated signalling (CAS) variants, including MF, DTMF and R2 derivatives.

Due to the flexibility of the routing and switching, GroomerII also provides solutions in a range of diverse applications including:
·   Flexible call routing with least cost and alternative route creation
·   Number translation with number based routing creating a dynamic routing system
·   Multi-port concentration where multiple incoming channels can be fed to a consolidated onward route
·   Billing features, which provide call data records (CDR) for network management systems and advice of charge (AOC) generation and mapping (extending the functionality of many PBXs)
·   Connecting E1 and T1 networks with A-law/µ-law encoding conversion

Leading rack-mount server vendor, Crystal Group Inc.®, have provided the server. Crystal was very pleased to provide a custom server designed specifically to meet Aculabs performance and European racking requirements. The entire Crystal team is very excited about the GroomerII opportunity," says Curtis Nelson, President of Crystal.
About Aculab
Through a customer-focused approach to development, Aculab has produced a computer telephony (CT) product portfolio that satisfies the speech resource and global digital connectivity requirements of developers and system integrators. CT applications utilising Aculabs components can handle real-time telephony, through an extensive range of resources and signalling systems.

The evolution of Aculabs generic API, to provide a consistent programming interface, reduces the integration time of a combination of technologies including text-to-speech (TTS), automatic speech recognition (ASR), conferencing and fax. Collectively through supporting a broad range of industry standards and operating systems, Aculab can provide the products needed when quality and performance cannot be compromised.

Aculabs head office is located in Milton Keynes, UK with offices in the USA, Germany and Australia. Website: www.aculab.com
