Over $37,000 in College Scholarships Up for Grabs! Cherokee Countys Junior Miss Program March 1st & 2nd

Cherokee Countys Junior Miss Scholarship Program will be held at 7:30 PM on March 1st and will conclude at 2:00 PM on March 2nd at Etowah High School in Woodstock. Twenty-eight young women will compete for the title of Cherokee Countys Junior Miss and a share of thousands of dollars in college scholarships.

Twenty-eight young women will compete for the title of Cherokee Countys Junior Miss and a share of thousands of dollars in college scholarships.

The young women participating in this years program are Jennifer Baluch, Woodstock High School; Bethany Blades, Woodstock High School; Elizabeth Bowman, Etowah High School; Danelle Brown, Cherokee High School; Kate Bryant, Woodstock High School; Jessica Chizmadia, Kings Academy; Alicia Davis, Etowah High School; Erin Dodd, Etowah High School; Lindsay Fears, Sequoyah High School; Rachel Geoghagan, Sequoyah High School; Mia Holtzman, Etowah High School; Erin Honea, Sequoyah High School; Alison Key, Cherokee High School; Ivett Kyriacou, Woodstock High School; Natalia Kyriacou, Woodstock High School; Hope Lam, Woodstock High School; Brittany Martin, Sequoyah High School; Kristina Miles, Woodstock High School; Allison Nystrom, Etowah High School; Crystal Page, Woodstock High School; Majda Qaqish, Woodstock High School; Jessica Ramsey, Etowah High School; Danielle Rollins, Etowah High School; Amy Stinson, Woodstock High School; Sarah Vaughn, Etowah High School; Catie Wagner, Etowah High School; Christa Wilbanks, Sequoyah High School; and Niki Willis, Sequoyah High School.

The categories in which each contestant is evaluated are scholastics (20%), interview (25%), talent (25%), fitness (15%) and poise (15%). The programs goal is to honor young women who excel in all these areas and to encourage them to continue on the path of excellence by completing their college educations and assuming roles of leadership in their communities and professions, thereby setting an example for other young women to follow.    

Approximately 6,000 high school girls from all 50 states participated in the Junior Miss adventure last year. Since its inception in the late '50s, over 700,000 young women have enjoyed the Junior Miss experience and over $82 million in scholarships have been awarded. Local programs are held in over 500 communities, and the winners, like Cherokee Countys Junior Miss selected on March 2nd, will advance to the state finals. Georgias Junior Miss program will be held July 18th and 19th. The following June, the 50 state level winners will then travel to Mobile, Alabama for the Americas Junior Miss competition. Amy Kerr is the current Americas Junior Miss for the Class of 2002. She won a total of $76,300 at the local, state, and national levels of competition. Past participants include Diane Sawyer of ABC News, Deborah Norville of Inside Edition and Debra Messing, co-star of NBCs Will & Grace. The national presenting sponsor of Americas Junior Miss is HealthSouth. Other national sponsors include Coca-Cola, Bally Total Fitness, uppsedaisies loungewear, ThermaSilk and Tyson Foods. National category sponsors include the Guardian Life Insurance Company of America, Terminix, Mobile Gas and UBS PaineWebber. Governmental support is furnished by the City of Mobile, Mobile County and the State of Alabama. The 46th annual Americas Junior Miss National Finals will be held in Mobile, Alabama in June of 2003.

Featured entertainers for the program include Carrie Frederickson, Cherokee Countys Junior Miss 2003 and Jillian Martin, the current Georgias Junior Miss. Tickets will be available at the door for $7.00 at each performance.
