Powerwave Technologies Introduces GSM MCPA Booster Solutions For European Networks
900 and 1800 MHz capacity and coverage solutions to be showcased at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France
Santa Ana, California - February 18, 2003 - Powerwave Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: PWAV), a leading supplier of radio frequency (RF) power amplifiers for use in wireless communications networks, today introduced a series of new GSM multi-carrier power amplifier (MCPA) booster solutions for the European market. The newest additions to Powerwaves MCPA portfolio are specifically designed to improve both downlink and uplink performance of 900 and 1800 MHz networks, providing cost effective and performance driven network coverage and capacity solutions.
"High penetration rates and growing voice and data traffic are driving network infrastructure requirements for greater capacity and increased coverage." stated Bruce C. Edwards, President and Chief Executive Officer of Powerwave Technologies. "Our latest multi-carrier power amplifier solutions for GSM networks address the need for coverage and capacity solutions which are optimized for the performance and cost requirements of todays competitive market."
Powerwave's new 900 and 1800 MHz MCPA Boosters are designed to provide enhanced coverage and capacity for micro and macrocell applications, delivering up to 8 carriers and 200 watts of total output power and up to 10dB of link budget improvement. Each Booster configuration offers the flexibility to be used as a downlink-only solution or as a bi-directional amplifier.
Powerwaves MCPA Boosters represent a significant improvement over traditional GSM site expansion using single carrier amplifiers and high power hybrid combining. The MCPA Boosters use low power combining and a high power RF multi-carrier amplifier to combine multiple GSM signals onto one antenna with no power reduction as the carrier count increases. This makes it possible to extend site coverage and increase service capacity through a number of unique features:
• Increases channel count per antenna at the same power level
• Eliminates additional antennas on existing sites
• Increases site radius for new designs
• Avoids radius reduction when expanding capacity in existing systems
Powerwaves GSM MCPA Boosters will be showcased at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, February 18 - 21, 2002, in Hall 2, Booth D48.

Forward-Looking Statements
The foregoing statements regarding the timing of the introduction of new products and the benefits to be derived from the new products are "forward looking statements." All of these statements are subject to risks and uncertainties, which could cause our actual results to differ materially from those projected or implied. Such potential risks and uncertainties include, but are not limited to, in no particular order: unexpected technical difficulties in developing new products which could result in delays in the availability of the new products; undetected technical problems which could impact the performance of the new products; difficulties or delays in obtaining customer qualification of new products; delays in deployment of the new products by network operators; we require continued success in the design of new amplifier products and such products must be manufacturable and of good quality and reliability; the ramp up of new engineering projects and product lines incurs many additional costs and if customer demand for such new products is not large enough, such costs may have a negative impact on our operating results; our business requires continued favorable business conditions and growth in the wireless communications market. More detailed information on these and additional factors which could affect Powerwave's operating and financial results are described in the Company's Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended December 30, 2001, and Form 10-Q for the quarter ended September 29, 2002 which are filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, and other risks detailed from time to time in the Company's reports filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
