MapInfo, a world leader in Location-Based Services (LBS), is expanding the coverage of its Location-Based Services (LBS) platform - miAware - to include Finland, France, The Netherlands and Sweden, with a further wave of development to be announced this summer.
The move is part of MapInfos strategy to encourage mobile operators to adopt LBS, by building a comprehensive and consistent geo-spatial services platform, which can be rapidly deployed to deliver new revenue generating LBS applications.
MapInfo has already developed, thoroughly tested and launched miAware in six countries: Canada, Germany, Italy, Spain, UK and US, and plans to serve the new regions by end Q2, 2003. MapInfos recently launched miAware version 2.0 is the industrys first mobile location services platform to adhere to Mobile Location Protocol Specifications set by the Location Interoperability Forum (LIF), part of the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA).
New Pricing Structure
In recognition of the current economic conditions facing wireless operators, MapInfo has announced a new aggressive pricing structure in a bid to stimulate the LBS market. In addition to the existing licensing models, MapInfo now offers single application licensing and a transaction-based revenue sharing model.
Larry Delaney, general manager MapInfo LBS Business Unit says, Location-Based Services have huge potential for generating profits for mobile operators. However, if an operator is to invest in and deploy LBS applications it needs to be confident in its business case and 100% certain of its operational success. Throughout our ongoing project, Siemens and Vodafone set MapInfo some extremely rigorous trials that enabled miAware to establish industry credibility where other solutions have not. The pricing announced today complements our technical excellence and will enable operators to rationalise the business case for LBS, even in this difficult economic climate."
Delaney added, MapInfos pan-European expansion, and adherence to standards, confirms MapInfos commitment to enabling wireless operators to achieve success by rapidly developing and deploying new revenue generating LBS services across Europe."
