AMSTERDAM - FEBRUARY 21, 2003. Dot TK, the exclusive Registry Agent for Internet domains of the South Pacific island of Tokelau (.TK) today launched its Ambassador Program. The program was created to help fulfill the wishes of Dot TK domain registrants to more actively participate in helping Tokelau and furthering the objectives of the Tokelau Internet Project. Tokelau, a tiny fishing island with 1,500 residents, is a protectorate of New Zealand. However, it seeks to one-day gain self-sufficiency and financial independence. In its shift toward independence, TokelauÂs immediate interest is the acquisition of advanced communications, medical and educational technologies; all primary objectives of The Tokelau Internet Project.
With more than 350,000 FREEDOMAIN.TK domains currently in use globally, the .TK Country Code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) has gained an immense following of devoted supporters. By joining the Dot TK Ambassador Program, all registrants can now actively participate in the efforts of the Tokelau Internet Project. Registrants complete an online application and once accepted as an "Ambassador", they are encouraged to promote Dot TK and The Tokelau Internet Project in their schools, businesses and local communities. The Ambassador Program is expected to produce exponential growth in the registration of FREEDOMAIN.TK domains. Based on the number of new registrants they refer, Ambassadors are promoted through five (5) levels of Ambassadorships. In a tribute to Tokelau's social structure (called "Inati") whereby all families on the island share equally in the day's catch, for each new registrant referred, Ambassadors earn "virtual fish" which can be bartered for items available in the Dot TK Barter Market.
Unlike typical Internet Affiliate Programs, where the primary motivation for all parties is to generate revenues, Dot TK's Ambassador Program is designed to drive additional FREEDOMAIN.TK registrations and its Ambassadors are compensated with personal satisfaction and Dot TK/Tokelau branded specialty items, rather than with money.
"Dot TK is delighted to launch our Ambassador Program, which encourages our registrants to not only learn more about Tokelau and the needs of its people, but by encouraging their families, friends and colleagues to register FREEDOMAIN.TK domains, they can actually have an impact on the future of the island," said Dot TK's Executive Vice President Cathy Josey. "Staying true to our motto, Dot TK has been 'Dividing Domains Differently' since December of 2001. This philosophy is the driving force behind the development of all of Dot TK's policies, programs and projects", said Ms. Josey.
Dot TK's objective is to continue to build its user base of individuals and small businesses interested in Tokelau, its customs, its culture and its beauty. Dot TK adds value to FREEDOMAIN.TK registrations by not requiring advertisements and by offering free tools such as the Dot TK Traffic Check, where hits on a registrant's Dot TK website are measured without the need for a counter, as well as with Email forwarding services for addresses within their Dot TK domain name. To date, the large volume of FREEDOMAIN.TK domains registered and in use has led to increased demand for its PAIDDOMAIN.TK and SPECIALDOMAIN.TK domains, which is Dot TK's primary source of revenues.
Dot TK is a joint venture of the Government of Tokelau, it's communication company Teletok and Taloha, Inc., a privately held company. The Government of Tokelau has appointed Taloha, Inc. as the exclusive registration entity. Taloha is privately funded and has offices in San Francisco, USA and Amsterdam, the Netherlands. With its management team, an experienced staff and multi-redundant backbones in both countries Taloha can handle millions of registrations.
