Press Conference to announce the progress of the national Campus Anti-War Network (CAN) in conjunction with the National Conference of CAN in Chicago

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE WHO: Student anti-war groups and activist representing over 100 high schools, colleges, and universities from across the United States. Also included is keynote speaker Normon Solomon (Writer / Media Critic) and two representatives from the Student Union of Japan. WHAT: Press Conference to announce the progress of CAN and the student anti-war movement since the initiation of CAN. Also discussed will be the future of CAN and a statement to President Bush detailing our anti-war position. WHEN: Sunday, February 23, 2003 -- 12:00 PM WHERE: Loyola University Lakeshore Campus, The Sky Building 6363 N. Sheridan Rd., Chicago

On January 17, regional conferences at George Washington University and San Francisco State University brought together representatives from over 70 colleges and universities to discuss strengthening the anti-war movement. Delegates founded the Campus Anti-War Network (CAN) and voted to oppose the war on Iraq as well and move to educate and make active our classmates and campus communities. The national conference in Chicago on February 22-23 has been called to help achieve these goals. It is our view that the best way to build an independent student voice within the anti-war movement as a whole is for the hundreds of schools with anti-war groups to get together face to face and democratically decide how we can all work together to stop this war.

Members of the press are encouraged to RSVP for the press conference. Press packets will be made available at the press conference. Conference attendees will also be made available to answer specific questions about the conference, the national student anti-war movement, and our view on Bushs war against Iraq. Another press release will follow at the completion of the conference.
