With the Music Business reeling, DVD's are becoming increasingly more popular. Eric Kline, a noted video producer who has worked with Mariah Carey, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Nelly and hundreds more, enters the DVD production market. DVD's are now used as the main commercial distribution vehicle for concerts, documentaries and video compilations.

edge commercials, videos and documentaries for major and independent record labels, movie studios, music channels and ad agencies. Their projects include working with musical superstars from Bon Jovi to Nelly, and, notable film actors from Eddie Murphy to Denzel Washington.

“In addition to film and video, E. Kline Productions is now expanding into the DVD market,” says founder and President, Eric Kline. “We are offering one-stop DVD production services. Our top-notch professionals provide original concepts, shooting, programming and mastering for the music, film, television and advertising industries, alike.”

The versatility of the DVD is becoming increasingly more evident. The technology has been widely used in the motion picture industry. Now, with concerts, behind the scenes documentaries, short films and music video compilations, the music industry is embracing its use.

“The DVD is one of today’s best and most affordable forms of entertainment,” says Justin Prager, Director of Programming, MTV. “Kline has worked with such a diversified background of artists, there is no question that his company is one of the best to make DVD productions happen.”

Within the ever-changing climate of the entertainment and advertising industries, DVDs appear to be a viable long-term, income producing solution. In the past few years, DVD products have proven to be one of the only areas of definitive technological growth and positive income. Predominantly associated with film and television, unit sales shipped in 2002 were in excess of 153 million - more than doubling the number in the same period the previous year. With their success in movie sales, many music industry execs are now looking to DVDs to beef up their revenues.

Popular music Producer/remixer(Jim Brickman, Los Tigres Del Norte), Jason Klein aka Monster Taxi, sees the DVD as added value. “When you buy a CD and it has a bonus DVD in it, it's incentive for people to purchase it,” says Klein. “DVDs are the future of the music business.”

Interscope Records, which distributes rapper 50 Cent, recently announced that, due to rampant internet bootlegging of his release, Get Rich Or Die Trying, a bonus DVD would accompany the first 500,000 CDs as incentive to purchase, rather than bootleg or download. He sold 872,000 units within the first week – breaking the record for highest debut by a new artist.

“With 50 Cent’s success, and an upcoming DVD from Jennifer Lopez, the music business is obviously looking at DVDs for future income stream, as well as a way to recover from their (direct and indirect) losses. At this time, DVDs provide one of the safest and most cost effective way to go,” Eric Kline concludes.

Music industry veteran Ricky Leigh Mensh, Sr. VP of Hits magazine, agrees. "People want more bang for their buck. DVDs are where it's at and where it’s going. E. Kline Productions is, and will continue to be, a solid contributor to that format."
