THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH VISUALIZES TELEMEDICINE AS A VALUABLE ASSESSMENT TOOL

The Florida Agency looks to Applied Global Technologies to supply TANDBERG Tele-Healthcare Solutions

Rockledge, FL -- February 19, 2003 - Applied Global Technologies, a worldwide provider of reliable and worry-free video communication, is working with the Florida Department of Health on its goal to utilize video technology to deliver public health and medical services to rural areas and underserved populations. An additional goal is to better assess potential bio-terrorism crises throughout the state through the use of telemedicine technology. AGT currently supplies TANDBERG Telemedicine gear to the states selected DOH sites.

While our primary goal is the delivery of public health and medical services on a daily basis, without a doubt, this technology has the capacity to provide medical experts with immediate access to anyone who is potentially affected by a bio-terrorism attack," stated Dr. Michael Haney, Division Director for Prevention and Interventions, Childrens Medical Services, Florida Department of Health.     Our vision is to utilize this technology such that we could link the Center for Disease Control or other health agencies and provide visual observation of the patient in real-time -- allowing instantaneous assessment and immediate response to a major population threat."

In addition to assessing risk, the use of the Telemedicine Technology can protect healthcare workers from direct exposure to a threatening event while allowing for quick communication to appropriate DOH offices.

"The FL-DOH's telemedicine initiative is a multi-functional approach to video communications," added Erik Skolnik, Applied Global Technologies. The FL-DOH utilizes specialized telemedicine gear for diagnosis, consultative sessions and business meetings maximizing the return on investment of their solution. This approach coupled with the bio-terrorism initiatives of the CDC and NIH will be critical for instantaneous updates in a terrorist situation."

Currently, the Florida Department of Health employs Telemedicine to connect medical experts with patients in remote locations. The most dramatic impact of this technology today is found in the Child Abuse Project. Today, with the aid of a nurse, a child in a rural Florida county is able to unite with an expert at the Child Protection Team hub site for an evaluation through the point-to-point video technology. The doctor can view injuries, videotape assessments for future court evidence and provide the resources of an expert in real-time.

In addition, the Department of Health is also utilizing this technology to provide services in the areas of genetics, HIV, Craniofacial services, and radiology to adolescents with diabetes.

We are very pleased to work with Applied Global Technologies in the area of telemedicine," remarked Dr. Haney. We believe they will be a valuable partner in our quest to develop a health care delivery system that has multiple applications in our state. AGT has a reputation as a trustworthy and dependable partner, which is important in a project that requires such a high level of accuracy and reliability."
