DDC Releases First 4-Channel 1553 PMC Card at 66MHz Bus Speed

The new 4-Channel PMC card provides a complete COTS solution for interfacing between a PCI bus and one or more 1553 data buses. The next generation of DDCs BU-65565, the conduction-cooled BU-65566 enables faster (66 MHz) processing, features a secondary thermal interface that meets the VITA-20-2001 specification, and runs on only 5 volts.

Bohemia, New York (PRWEB) February 22, 2003 - Data Device Corporation is pleased to announce the new BU-65566 MIL-STD-1553 PMC card. The new card provides a complete COTS solution for interfacing between a PCI bus and one or more 1553 data buses. The next generation of DDCs BU-65565, the conduction-cooled BU-65566 enables faster (66 MHz) processing, features a secondary thermal interface that meets the VITA-20-2001 specification, and runs on only 5 volts.

On why DDC is releasing the BU-65566 now, Mike Hegarty, DDC Product Marketing Manager, explains, Were committed to keeping pace with emerging trends in the industry and were seeing more and more base processor cards [with which DDC cards interface] operating at 66 MHz. By offering a PMC card that function at the same speed were allowing the base card to talk to other devices at its maximum speed. Of course weve also incorporated a few other enhancements we think are important to our customers."

The BU-65566, which is currently shipping, provides a 32-bit PCI interface that operates at clock speeds up to 66 MHz. The BU-65566 allows the base CPU PCI bus to run at 66MHz. According to Mr. Hegarty, this allows other high-speed devices on the bus to exploit the higher bandwidth. In contrast, a 33 MHz PMC card on a 66 MHz bus forces the bus to slow down to 33 MHz." This is the first such interface card to offer a 66-MHz target interface.

In addition to a primary thermal interface, the BU-65566s secondary thermal interface reduces thermal rise and is compatible with an expanded array of commercially available single-board computers. The BU-65566 minimizes power consumption by using 3.3 volts power for its PCI interface and 1553 logic-eliminating the need to add a separate 3-volt supply to the base card.

The BU-65566 supports up to 4 channels to provide the highest density in the COTS market. Each 1553 channel may be independently programmed for BC, RT, MT, or RT/MT modes. This provides support for MIL-STD-1553A/B, STANAG-3838, McAir, and MIL-STD-1760. The BU-65566 is compatible with older generation ACE and Mini-ACE (Plus) series, and DDCs dataMARS and dataSIMS software. Applications for the BU-65566 include embedded avionics, flight computers, and avionics systems, as well as mission and weapons computers and radar systems.
