General Motors teams up with Florida International University

Panthers get Hands-On Experience in the Real World

Miami, Florida - Florida International University College of Business, Edventure Partners and the Pontiac Division of General Motors are offering for the first time a unique on-campus internship opportunity in which business students can obtain college credit hours while attaining hands-on business experience. This exclusive partnership is part of a larger industry-education program sponsored by General Motors, known as the General Motors Marketing Internship (GMMI)
Over the next 16 weeks, 36 business students will create a working marketing agency, and will be responsible for researching, implementing, and evaluating a promotional campaign for their client, the Pontiac Division of General Motors and a local Pontiac dealership in Miami. To help students bring their plans to life, a local dealership will be providing a budget of $2,500.
After organizing their agency, exploring their target market and presenting the strategic plan to the client, students will then create an interactive event aimed at increasing awareness for Pontiac vehicles Miami. The programs overall results will be presented to both representatives of Pontiac and dealership executives in an agency-style presentation.

Edventure Partners GMMI Facilitator, Karin Fonte and Florida International University Marketing Instructor, Tim Dugan will provide guidance and support to students, to make this endeavor a complete success.
GMMI is a program for people who want to acquire and develop communication, team work, confidence, public speaking and presentation skills; essential skills necessary to compete in todays business world. As Karin Fonte, said This is a program for leaders and I think everyone leaves this program with a sense of accomplishment." Also Tim Dugan said Most students can study and take tests fairly well. However, that is not a good indicator of their work ethic or their capability of applying their knowledge in realistic, professional settings. This course combines knowledge and reality -- a great asset for FIU students".
Todays college students are in a catch-22" when entering the job market, they lack of experience and find themselves in a situation where they cannot find a job due to their inexperience. GMMI effectively bridges the gap between industry and education and provides students with the hand-on, experiential learning necessary to find employment.
The student agency at Florida International University will also be eligible to compete for the General Motors Marketing Internship Scholastic Achievement Award. A regional $1000 award will be given to the top 4-year university or top 2-year community college participating in the program.
To date, GMMI has participated in over 350 campuses nationwide. Edventure Partners manage the programs, in conjunction with General Motors and its divisions. Edventure Partners is a California based company that specializes in developing industry-educational partnerships to provide one-of-a kind educational value to students and educators while reciprocally providing clients with marketing and recruiting access to campuses across the country.
