Manual Offers Blueprint on Surviving in a Post 9/11 America

Atlanta, GA -- February 23, 2003 -- Knowledge is power", as the saying goes, and when you find startling information that when applied appropriately can save your life, you had better take notice! The purpose of this book is to help people to prepare for the unexpected with concise, no-nonsense advice on the key steps that ordinary citizens can take to minimize their risks in various emergency situations. An American Survival Guide" contains both facts and resources not easily found in the popular press. The main point of this book is that while a terrorist attack or a natural disaster is virtually impossible to prevent, proper preparation will increase your odds of survival and reduce the potential for injury and damages.

Disasters can strike at any time, and now include man-made atrocities initiated by various terrorist groups and foreign governments, as well as the more common but no less deadly natural disasters such as tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes and ice storms. According to various intelligence reports released since 9/11, the United States is nearly as susceptible to terrorist attacks on its own soil as Israel has been. Additionally, over industrialization and the global population explosion continue to wreak havoc on the stability of the earths weather patterns, resulting in natural disasters on a scope never before encountered.

An American Survival Guide" contains hard-hitting information on a wide variety of dangerous situations in an easily digestible format with easy to implement safety tips and plenty of sound, practical advice. It is particularly relevant in light of the ongoing events since September 11th, and the current escalation of hostilities with Iraq. It contains information on bioterrorism, chemical and random nuclear attacks, in addition to showing you how to better survive or avoid such diverse situations as severe winter storms, carjackings, tornadoes, shark attacks, high-rise fires, hurricanes, credit identity theft and cyber terrorism. This guidebook gives you practical advice on specific scenarios, and makes you realize that you can cope when events beyond your control occur. It certainly is a refreshing alternative to the hysteria and the simplistic roll of duct tape and 2 jugs of water" advice people have been subject to recently.

The authors are former members of the southeastern-based think tank, the Disaster Management Group, and are experts on the subjects of survival, risk management, communications, technology and planning. They believe that survival is a decision, which is often made well before the actual misfortune or event occurs, while panic is the result of being unprepared and unsure of what to do when disaster strikes. This book was designed to reach a wide audience, to have a positive impact on as many peoples lives as possible, and to help them to be better equipped to become survivors, physically, emotionally and financially in whatever circumstances they may find themselves in.
