SANTA FE – The New Mexico Photography Field School is pleased to announce “Places of the Spirit: New Mexico’s Catholic Churches through Photography,” a photography workshop that explores the architecture and meaning of beautiful old adobe churches found throughout northern New Mexico. The workshop is being offered June 29 through July 5, 2003. This hands-on workshop includes field trips to various exotic and highly photographable locations throughout the week. The workshop is taught by well-known Fine-art Photographer Craig Varjabedian and Author and Southwest Historian Fr. Thomas J. Steele, S.J.

Participants in this workshop will explore exceptional examples of New Mexico's adobe churches and will meet the people who gather in and care for them. The workshop will also focus on other expressions of Catholic faith from low-rider cars adorned with Christian symbols to roadside crosses to private chapels. Motivated beginners will feel right at home with photographers of long experience and all camera formats including digital cameras are welcome.

For 17 years now the New Mexico Photography Field School has offered exceptional photographic workshops based on the history, character and beauty of New Mexico - truly the State of Enchantment. The Field School is directed by Craig Varjabedian, a fine-art photographer of the enchanted lands and peoples of the American Southwest. His widely collected and exhibited photographs are known for their tonal delicacy and visual isolation of natural and human environments. The workshop program is based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, the heart of the American Southwest.
