A wonderful childs/young adult science fiction novel that even adults will enjoy.

Libra: The Cat Who Saved Silicon Valley
by Lincoln Taiz, Lee Taiz
Paperback: 326 pages, 7 illustrations
Publisher: Amsea Group Publishing, Inc.; (December 15, 2002)
ISBN: 0972304401

Libra: The Cat Who Saved Silicon Valley is not your ordinary young adult book, nor is it your ordinary science fiction book, nor is it your ordinary mystery book, but with a combination of them all, it is a one of a kind adventure that will keep the reader thinking about it long after the book is finished.

It is the story of a space explorer cat, Commander Libra Shimagrimicka from the planet Gatos (gato is the Spanish word for cat), who becomes marooned on earth near Silicon Valley when her spaceship malfunctions. To obtain the new microchip she needs to repair her ship, Libra must enlist the aid of two earthling cats and their human companions. Their adventures lead them to do battle with the evil Dogma Computers, a powerful company with ties to the criminal underworld. Can Libra and her friends solve a baffling mystery and triumph over Dogma?

This is a fast-moving and whimsical tale that both children and adults will enjoy. The sci-fi fan will love the word-play, technology, and humor, and the young reader, too, will be carried along with the adventure. Lively illustrations add to the fun.

The book comes with a CD of music featuring Amanda Shelby. The 25 songs are fun to sing and listen to. And it is an added bonus that makes this book a real deal.

Before writing this review, I had my 5th grade son also read the book. He loved it. He enjoyed the play on words and the story line. He has since taken the book to school and has shared it with his friends. It is truly a book for all ages.
