Modern Woman is a fresh magazine that fills the void of many consumer magazines for women. It discusses real issues affecting women and explores them from the womenÂs perspective.
Founder and editor April Miller said she wanted to create a magazine that stimulated discussion about serious topics among women.
ÂAlthough many womenÂs interest magazines are entertaining to read, they do not always encourage discussion of the issues,Â she said. ÂI want all women to interact with each other and tell their stories. All women have incredible stories to tell. They just need a medium.Â
While Modern Woman discusses the serious side of life, it also has articles that present the lighter side.
ÂEach issue will have stories about that monthÂs social awareness,Â April said. ÂFor example, our May issue will have a section on hearing and speech awareness, and alongside it will be womenÂs personal accounts of how those issues have affected them. However, we will also have MotherÂs Day articles, summer travel ideas for those on a budget and fun activities families can do together. Women are daughters, mothers, wives and friends. I want them to have a magazine that represents each of their roles in society.Â
One of Modern WomanÂs writers said the magazine is the kind she would pick up in the store.
ÂThe list of article ideas is refreshing and interesting,Â she said. ÂEspecially compared to the drivel that fills most magazines geared to women. I think Modern Woman is coming out at the exact right time...Woman want a magazine about them, about what they think and what they care about!Â
