Each year, The New York Times Neediest Cases Fund collects contributions from the public by publishing stories about people living in despair in New York. The active campaign begins in early November and runs for 90 days; however, contributions are always welcome. Since The New York Times pays all Fund expenses, 100% of the contributions go directly to the following social service agencies: The Brooklyn Bureau of Community Service, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York, Catholic Charities, Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens, The Children's Aid Society, Community Service Society of New York, Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies, Inc., UJA - Federation of New York.

City Harvest

Founded in 1981, City Harvest is the world's largest and oldest food rescue program. Each day, City Harvest picks up nearly 45,000 pounds of food that would otherwise go to waste from restaurants, farms, grocers, bakeries, and other sources and delivers it to community food organizations serving needy New Yorkers.
