Steven Kendus presents Developing a Web-Based Portfolio" to Metro Baltimore STC

Steven M. Kendus, manager of technical education and communications for Integrated Software Solutions, Inc. (ISS), presented Developing a Web-Based Portfolio" to the Metro Baltimore Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication on February 13, 2003.

MALVERN - February 14, 2003 - Steven M. Kendus, manager of technical education and communications for Integrated Software Solutions, Inc. (ISS), presented Developing a Web-Based Portfolio" to the Metro Baltimore Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication on February 13, 2003.

The presentation, based on Kendus article Developing a Web-Based Portfolio" that appeared as the cover feature in the November 2002 issue of Intercom, addressed the benefits of Web-based portfolios for technical communication job candidates and offered tips on creating them. Web-based portfolios are personalized Web sites that use modern technology (such as HTML, word processing applications and Adobe Acrobat) to present examples of technical communication skills to potential employers.

According to Kendus, Using an online portfolio instead of a cumbersome, paper-based one has many benefits, including ease of updating, ability for prospective employers to view samples prior to an interview, the opportunity to show functional examples of skills, and reduced production costs. With the continuous movement of organizations toward paperless environments, I think it only makes sense to impress potential employers with a paperless portfolio."
