Inphi Corporation Launches Variable Output Amplitude Driver with up to 40 dB Output Range New device from Inphi offers excellent performance and design flexibility for a variety of networking and instrumentation applications

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif., Feb. 11, 2003 ƒ{ Expanding its product portfolio for the high-performance data and clock management market, Inphi Corporation today announced a variable gain amplifier with an output ranging from 100 millivolts to 6 volts peak-to-peak differential at data rates up to 13 Gbps. The 1312VA is designed for single-ended or differential applications requiring high performance, wide dynamic range, and low power dissipation, such as telecommunications and networking systems and test and measurement equipment.

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif., Feb. 11, 2003, Expanding its product portfolio for the high-performance data and clock management market, Inphi Corporation today announced a variable gain amplifier with an output ranging from 100 millivolts to 6 volts peak-to-peak differential at data rates up to 13 Gbps. The 1312VA is designed for single-ended or differential applications requiring high performance, wide dynamic range, and low power dissipation, such as telecommunications and networking systems and test and measurement equipment.

"In light of the favorable customer response to our recent product announcements, we are continuing to add to our line of high-speed logic and analog components," said Paul Washkewicz, vice president of marketing and sales at Inphi. "We work closely with our customers to define and deliver high-caliber products such as the 1312VA. With Inphi's wide array of complementary building blocks, equipment manufacturers can design systems that offer better performance at a competitive price."

Inphi's new variable gain amplifier is well suited for SONET/SDH line cards and transponders as well as for instrumentation and automated test equipment. With typical rise and fall times less than 25 picoseconds, jitter less than 0.5 picoseconds rms, and differential output signal swings from 0.1 to 6.0 volts peak-to-peak, this device overcomes the performance limitations of existing variable gain amplifiers (see Figures 1 and 2).

The 1312VA is currently sampling in both die and surface mount quad flat packages (QFP) and is also available on an evaluation board. Pricing for the 1312VA is $192 in volumes of 1,000 units in die form.

Figure 1. Measured results for the packaged 1312VA on an evaluation board at 12.5 Gbps with a 231 V 1 pseudo random binary sequence (PRBS) eye diagram. The output has been adjusted to 6 volts peak-to-peak and includes the effects of all printed circuit board components and measurement cables.

Figure 2. Measured results for the 1312VA with the output adjusted to 50 millivolts peak-to-peak single ended.
