Gilbert Deploys GlobeRanger Wireless Logistics Solution

The Gilbert Companies, a division of P&O Nedlloyd Logistics and leading logistics provider for major retail corporations and wholesalers in the United States, has selected GlobeRanger to deploy an Outbound Delivery solution for improving operational efficiency and customer service.

RICHARDSON, Texas -- March 3, 2003 -- The Gilbert Companies, a division of P&O Nedlloyd Logistics and leading logistics provider for major retail corporations and wholesalers in the United States, has selected GlobeRanger to deploy an Outbound Delivery solution for improving operational efficiency and customer service.

GlobeRangers solution, designed specifically for transportation and logistics providers, gives Gilbert the capability for automated data capture, electronic proof of delivery with signature, receipt printing and at-the-dock reconciliation. GlobeRanger will also enable Gilbert to enhance delivery visibility for its customers and provide monitoring and business-rule based alerts.

Customer Implementation
One of Gilberts key customers is a large, brand-name retailer of toys, clothing and collectibles for which Gilbert provides outbound delivery of products to retail locations in shopping malls. Each morning, delivery drivers wirelessly download their route onto their handhelds. At each stop, product cartons are scanned as delivered, proof of delivery is completed with electronic signature capture, and on-the-spot reconciliation is performed and transaction recorded on the handheld. Delivery data is then automatically uploaded to the internal and customer-support systems.

Before we deployed GlobeRangers solution, delivery information was manually recorded by drivers and post-delivery data entry was based on paper receipts. This was both labor-intensive and costly," said Barry Oppenheim, Vice President of Gilbert. This process is now automated. Weve streamlined our operational efficiencies and at the same time, improved our ability to deliver distribution visibility and timely performance data for our customers."

The 2002 Seventh Annual Logistics Study from the Georgia Institute of Technology, states that, Customers of third-party logistics (3PL) companies want more than just transportation services - they want 3PLs to provide the technology that drives the supply chain process."

Barry expounded by saying, By implementing this technology from GlobeRanger, our customers are getting more than just transportation services. We now have item-level visibility, real-time decision-making and the processes and support to meet the requirements of our customer. In addition, this solution can be implemented quickly, is simple and easy for our drivers to understand, shows an immediate ROI and improves customer service. "
