Fixturlaser AB in Mölndal, Sweden,launches a new Extruder Alignment System for precise measurement and alignment, which provides producers in the plastics, rubber and aluminium industries with the means of making considerable cuts in maintenance and service costs.

Kurt Carlson, Managing Director Fixturlaser AB, explains:

Misalignment of extruders causes excessive wear on extruder screws and generates detrimental forces on the drive train. Extruders have always been difficult to measure and align. Hence, many manufacturers have spent money on spare parts and costly production stops due to servicing. The Fixturlaser Extruder Alignment System is a completely new approach to measuring and aligning extruders and our new system gives the industry an opportunity to save time and money."

Alignment is not only fast and accurate, but also very easy to carry out. The laser transmitter is mounted on the drive shaft, replacing the extruder screw, shooting a visible red laser beam through the barrel. The receiver and its fixture, resting on the extruder barrels inner surface with six brass wheels, is slid through the barrel while registering measurement values in 2 axis with an accuracy down to 0, 02 mm.

The system is operated from a touch screen display unit. The operation is simplified by the use of icons and graphic representation of the measurements, as well as interpretation of the resulting measurements. The system delivers continuously updated measurement values which makes adjustments easy.
