Donation to Sisters in Action for Power

Wandering Star Designs Astrology Jewelry donated 10% of gross sales of our World Peace Jewelry design to Sisters in Action for Power, Portlands minority girls youth group.

Wandering Star is a small Portland business owned by Alicia C Katz. Ms Katz feels a strong obligation to support our local economy. She manufactures her jewelry in Oregon, and contracts with Portland entrepreneurs to run aspects of the business.

Ms. Katz is proud to support other female-oriented endeavors. When a group of young women from Sisters in Action for Power asked her to advertise in their annual directory, she was extremely impressed by the bearing and passion of the girls. Sisters in Action is a NE Portland youth group bringing together minority and economically challenged teenage girls to lobby for issues important to their daily lives -- these were the girls who successfully argued for a Youth Fare on TriMet and for Sexual Harassment Awareness programs in the public schools.

In addition to advertising with them, she decided to go a step further. Her newest jewelry design, World Peace, had been developed in response to the September 11 tragedy. The hopes and dreams behind the jewelry matched those of the girls youth group, so she declared that she would donate a portion of all 2002 sales of the World Peace design to Sisters in Action.

On March 1, 2003, Wandering Star signed a check for 10% of all gross receipts on World Peace Jewelry sales.
