Wild Survives Amazing Surgery

When Wild, a three and a half year old horse, was placed at Allys Haven two years ago, many thought he would never walk again. The Loveland, Colorado horse sanctuary has performed a miracle, and today, Wild spends his time running, bucking and playing as he grows accustomed to being a four-legged horse.

When Wild, a three and a half year old horse, was placed at Allys Haven two years ago, many thought he would never walk again. The Loveland, Colorado horse sanctuary has performed a miracle, and today, Wild spends his time running, bucking and playing as he grows accustomed to being a four-legged horse.

"I am the type of person that believes we can fix just about anything," Robin Bonn, owner of Allys Haven, says with determination. "I believe we have to try."

The day after Wilds arrival at the Haven, Bonn was already contacting doctors who would see to the horses treatment.
Wild had injured himself when he was only six months old, and was diagnosed with an Inferior and Superior Check ligament -- he was never expected to walk again.

Through the perseverance of Bonn, a team of doctors, which included Drs. Keesling and Kawcak of Fossil Creek Veterinary Hospital in Ft. Collins, CO, Dr. Andrea Floyd of Serenity Equine in VA, and Dr. Christine King, and Wilds indomitable spirit, Wild survived three surgeries and a near-deadly bout with Colitis. He is now walking normally and awaiting his return home, where he will be matched to a community service group in which he will provide service as a riding horse -- a possibility that was never expected for Wild.

"The fact that Wild's leg is straight is a miracle, the fact the he survived such an extreme case of Colitis is another. Wild is very fortunate to have so many people looking out for him and the efforts are paying off. Wild has endured a lot and has never given up!"

His historic recovery will be presented at the prominent Bluegrass Laminitis Symposium in Kentucky in January of 2004. Equine practitioners world-wide will attend.
