PacketVideo, Orange Imagineering, and Nokia Join List of Top Companies Taking Part in 'World's Smallest Film Festival' at CTIA Wireless 2003.

Companies scheduled to take part in panel discussions at this innovative event this week will also include Intel, AT&T Wireless, BMW Films, m-Qube, PacketVideo, RealNetworks, LightSurf Technologies, and FrogPad, Inc.


March 17, 2003 -- Los Angeles, CA -- BigDigit, Inc. today added three more companies to the list of those scheduled to take part in the Worlds Smallest Film Festival, which will take place on March 18, 2003 as a special independent event at the CTIA Wireless 2003 conference and trade show in New Orleans, LA.

The first-of-its-kind festival will showcase a variety of digital film content that is designed for presentation on next-generation wireless phones. BigDigit Inc., the producer of the event, will lead a series of discussions and presentations prior to the awards ceremony that focus on new trends and developments in new media presentations and mobile multimedia systems.

Taking part in the discussions will be representatives from some of the top hardware, software and content companies in the industry, and filmmakers. Many of these companies will be showing the latest in mobile technology and will be prepared to demonstrate how these new systems and services will usher in a new world of mobile entertainment and portable multimedia.

Companies sponsoring the event, or on the program, include: Intel Corp., PacketVideo Corp. BMW Films, FrogPad, Inc., Sennari Interactive, LightSurf Technologies, Inc., RealNetworks, Nokia Corp., Orange Imagineering, AT&T Wireless, m-Qube, Inc., and Digital World Services.
One of the highlights of the event will be an awards presentation, recognizing the best digital film entries for the "World's Smallest Film Festival". More than 70 film entries were accepted from filmmakers around the world, with submissions spanning nine different categories: Drama, Comedy, Music, Episodic, Instructional, Animation, Commercial, Experimental, and Sports. A panel of judges will rate these submissions on a variety of levels, including creativity, entertainment value, 'real world utility and optimum use of currently-available technology.

Among the filmmakers who have submitted made-for-mobile films for the festival are:

 
  • Bonnie Palef, an award-winning writer/director/producer who was involved in the production such feature films as of "Marvin's Room", the Oscar-winning "Moonstruck", Children of a Lesser God, and more. Her episodic entry into the film festival is What Great Thinkers Think", a made-for-mobile series including words of wisdom from The Dalai Lama.

 
  • Frank Chindamo, a developer and producer of feature films and television shows, whose work has appeared on HBO, CBS, Showtime, A&E, Playboy, MTV and Comedy Central. Mr. Chindamos short films have won 16 awards, including The American Cine Golden Eagle, The American International Film Festival and a Finalist's Place for Best Short at the Cannes Film Festival. His entry into the film festival is a made-for-mobile comedic series entitle 'Love Bytes.

Attendees at the CTIA conference and exhibition will also have an opportunity to screen and vote on their favorite films as part of the First Annual BigDigit-CTIA 'best of show awards category. The winner in this category will be announced after the festival close, and will be available for viewing on the BigDigit Web site (www.bigdigit.com/splash), and on certain Nokia cell phones through a special arrangement with Nokia.

The CTIA spring wireless conference is the premier event in the industry, and is expected to attract more than 40,000 attendees worldwide and 800 members of the press. Speakers at the CTIA conference will include Paul Otellini, President and COO of Intel Corp., Christopher Galvin, Chairman and CEO of Motorola, Len Lauer, President of Sprint Corp.s PCS Division, John Stanton, Chairman of T-Mobile, and Ted Turner, Vice Chairman of AOL Time Warner.
