Epic Systems to Protest at Augusta: Claims Neutrality on Hootie, Burk Issue

Epic Systems elects not to join controversial Augusta National protests.

Houston, TX Epic Systems President Paul Daniels announced today that his company plans to file for a permit to protest in Augusta Georgia. Epic is following a recent trend of organizations that have petitioned with the city of Augusta, most who are doing so in order to voice their opposition to the decision of Augusta National Golf Club to remain a male member only organization.

Unlike others planning to protest, Epic plans to take a neutral stance on any of the volatile issues surrounding the upcoming Masters tournament. Our presence at Augusta will not coincide with the tournament, stated Daniels. Our intention is to ensure that were not missing a trend and falling behind with our marketing. The last thing we need in todays economy is to have our competitors there while were back at the office working diligently making ends meet. What kind of message would that convey? It certainly isnt a socio-political statement like some of the other organizations protesting. Furthermore, I believe some of the other groups are being too confrontational relative to where they might actually stage their demonstration. Our application to Sheriff Strength will be accompanied by a Songs of Deliverance" CD and the Smokey and the Bandit" collection on DVD to hopefully enhance our chances of obtaining a permit in a desirable location."

When pressed on the issue Epic Vice President Derek Flint furthered, Look, we like women, we like golf, we believe in equality in the public sector. We pretty much like everybody and frankly find the whole issue rather silly. But, thats what makes America great. If Hootie wants to keep the club restricted to a bunch of good ole boys and Ms. Burk wants to try and force women membership against their will, who are we to stand in the way?"

Epic has yet to decide on a date for their permit request, or what type of statement they plan to make with their presence. Well, we havent really selected a platform," said Daniels. Were not really protesting anything so were just exercising our right to assemble. Weve never been to Augusta so possibly well just gather on the corner and drink Gatorade and eat peanuts. Weve been studying historical weather data so that we can target a viable date. The last thing we want is to suffer in the heat and humidity. We get enough of that in Houston and Ill wager a lot of the groups protesting at the Masters hadnt even given that consideration."
